Being Fulani

Here are a few glimpses into the life of the Fulani...

This is a wowru - in English it would be a mortar and pestal (sp?). We call it a "pounder." They use these to pound their grains until they are a powder form. After that they use it to make nyiiri - a type of food they eat, or chewtam - a millet-water drink they have.

The second picture is of me after some of the children in my village decided to braid my hair for me.

And the last picture is a picture of some tumbude - bowls made out of gourds. The Fulani women use them to store their kosam (milk) and chewtam.

Coming to an End...

Our time in Niger is quickly coming to an end. We only have two more months left here as of the time I am writing this update. It seems so crazy that two years have already gone by!!!

Please be lifting us up as we are beginning to say our goodbyes to the friends we have made here.

Here are some pictures of me for you...

This one is of me in my daily outfit - complete with a huge shawl that I wear mostly to keep the sun off me!

Here is a picture of me that one of the girls in my village took. The kids not only enjoy being in pictures but they also love to take them! That's why my head is not all in the picture...

Ahhh...the memories....
